Organizing Content

Understanding Categories

Categories are broad groupings for your posts. Think of them as the main topics your blog covers.

Examples:

  • A food blog might have: Recipes, Restaurant Reviews, Cooking Tips
  • A travel blog might have: Destinations, Travel Tips, Packing Guides
  • A tech blog might have: Reviews, Tutorials, News

Best practices:

  • Keep categories broad (5-10 max for most blogs)
  • Each post should fit into one category
  • Use tags for more specific topics

Creating Categories

  1. Click Categories in the sidebar

  2. Click New Category

  3. Fill in the details:

    • Name: The category name (e.g., "Recipes")
    • Description: Optional explanation of what this category covers
    • Status: Draft or Published
  4. Click Create Category

Note: Only published categories appear in the post editor dropdown.

  1. Open a post in the editor
  2. Find the Category dropdown on the right side
  3. Select a category from the list
  4. Save your post

Each post can belong to one category.

Understanding Tags

Tags are specific keywords that describe your post's content. They're more granular than categories.

Examples:

  • A recipe post might have tags: vegetarian, quick-meals, italian, pasta
  • A travel post might have tags: budget-travel, solo-travel, europe, backpacking

Best practices:

  • Use 3-5 tags per post
  • Keep tags specific and descriptive
  • Reuse existing tags when applicable

Creating Tags

  1. Click Tags in the sidebar
  2. Click New Tag
  3. Enter the tag name
  4. The slug auto-generates (or you can customize it)
  5. Click Create Tag

  2. Scroll to the Tags section
  3. Click on tags to select them (selected tags turn purple)
  4. Save your post
